Bioactive Collagen (500 g) is a composition of different highly-purified collagen peptides derived from a specific type of hydrolysis from bovine skin. Collagen peptides are rapidly absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract. Peptides are broken down into amino acids or di-peptides but are also absorbed to some extent in molecular intact form.
Collagen peptides have a positive impact on the biosynthesis of extracellular matrix (ECM) in cartilage tissue, as demonstrated by a statistically significantly increase of two major components, collagen type II and proteoglycan (aggrecan) after ingestion.

Clinically significant doses of regular gelatine typically cause severe gastrointestinal reactions including diarrhoea, precluding its usefulness for cartilage support. Arthred®, by contrast, is extremely digestible and is well tolerated.
