5-HTP is a natural amino acid found in the body and the direct metabolic precursor of serotonin and melatonin which act as brain chemical messengers. 5-HTP is converted in the body from the amino acid tryptophan, unlike tryptophan there are no dietary sources.

Thorne 5-HTP is formulated with Vitamin B6 for optimal activity and this formulation can also be taken with food without competing with other amino acids.
